Historical Background of the Race

The race is organized to honor Byzas, a significant settler and navigator from Megara in the 8th century BCE, who founded the city of Byzantium, which later became Constantinople.

Route and Checkpoints

The 50-kilometer asphalt course begins at Queen Frederica Square (Lytara Square) in Megara. Runners traverse pistachio groves, olive trees, vineyards, and forested areas, covering approximately 5 kilometers along the Alepochori – Dourakos coastline before returning to finish at the central square of Megara.

Challenges and Difficulties

The route presents challenges due to its elevation changes and continuous uphill and downhill sections, requiring participants to possess good physical condition and endurance.

The race combines athletic challenges with the historical and cultural heritage of the area, offering participants a unique experience through landscapes of natural beauty and historical significance.

The race course spans approximately 49.6 kilometers with a total elevation gain of 965 meters.

Participation Criteria

  • Experience: Previous experience in long-distance races is recommended. The race, while non-competitive, aims to promote long-distance running and serve as an introductory experience for ultramarathons.
